Privacy Policy

This is the official site of the Fen Ditton Parish Council.  The Webmasters of this site are its Data Controllers.  You can contact the Council or its Data Controllers using the Contact Us link at the top of the page.  If you do not accept the terms of this Privacy Policy, you should discontinue use of this web site with immediate effect.

How we collect data

When you read this site, your use is logged. The information typically gathered is the IP (internet) address of your computer (or of the nearest firewall), the web page you came from (the "referring page"), the URL of  items on this site that you accessed, and information about your computer's web browser and operating system.  These details are routinely captured by web servers as a matter of course, and normally cannot be used to personally identify an individual.

When you load images from this site, one or more "cookies" may be placed on your hard drive, or in your computer's memory.  Cookies are tiny files, usually containing little other than a random number.  The cookie is used to examine patterns of use.  If you have not logged into the site using a user name and password, the cookie can only identify that a certain user has looked at a certain group of pages: it cannot personally identify who that user is.  If you have logged in using a user name and password, a cookie stores information related to your login, so that successive pages don't have to repeatedly ask for your login credentials.  Deleting cookies from your machine that relate to this site is safe and harmless - but if you do use a user name, you will have to remember your password next time you log in.

We may collect information about site use that is associated with specific cookie numbers.

Where we store data

For visitors who do use user names and passwords, your registration information is held in a database.  This database may be stored outside the European Union area, but it is fully under our control, and we untertake to ensure that your personal data stored within it are treated in accordance with the Data Protection Acts and relevant European data protection legislation.

How we use data

The access logs do not contain personally-identifying data.  We use the logs to understand the use patterns of our site, and, where necessary, to reinforce the security of the site by collecting information relating to malicious use.

The personally-identifying data stored in the user name database comprises the information you provided at the time of registration, along with any you subsequently provide or add. It is used to store login credentials for registered users, and may be used to contact those registered users in such circumstances as we deem appropriate.  Those circumstances will not include paid-for advertising, except where adverts may be appended to emails we would otherwise have sent.  You will have the option to opt ouf of any email from us.

We will not sell or supply the personally-identifying information we have in our user name database to any person or corporate body unconnected with Fen Ditton Parish Council, except where it is necessary in order to assist law enforcement, or where we are compelled to do so by due legal process.

How others collect, store and use data

We may from time to time use third party services such as Google Analytics to supplement our site use analysis.  These also use cookies (see above) to track site usage.  Other than through such digest information as supplied by the third party service providers to us, we do not have access to the full logs and data stored by those service providers.

Taking control of your cookies

If you do not wish to be tracked by cookie, this will not affect your use of this site (other than to prevent logging in by users using user name and password). Some web browsers can block cookies from specific sites.  Others can be enhanced to so do by use of "plugins", "extensions" or some similar software.  You can usually delete cookies individually or as a group.  Doing this to cookies "dropped" by this site, or by our third party servivce providers (see "How others collect, store and use data" above) will prevent further logging, and cause a new cookie to be dropped the next time you visit.  The details of how to manage cookies on your computer are beyond the scope of this article, but are readily available by using search engines such as Google.

We do not recommend deleting all cookies from your browser.  You may have login details or preferences for other sites stored on your computer, and deleting all cookies would remove these too.

Changes in privacy policy

We may change this Privacy Policy from time to time.  Such changes will be reflected on this page, and take effect as soon as published (unless otherwise stated).

General FAQs

What is the Parish Council?

The Parish Council is an elected body that has responsibility for the Fen Ditton area.  It is an arm of Government, junior to the County and District Councils.

What's the connection with the Church?

In fact, although it's known as a Parish Council, the connection to the Church parish is only by name.  There is a similarly-named body that is purely concerned with Anglican Church matters within the Church's parish, and it is known as the Parochial Council.  Although the two bodies (the Parish Council and the Parochial Council) do communicate, and sometimes the Parish Council contributes to Church repair projects managed by the Parochial Council, they are completely separate groups.

Is the Parish Council's area the same as the Church's parish?

It is similar, but not the same.  The electoral bounds for the Parish Council are set by the Electoral Commission.

How many councillors are there?  Are there any vacant seats?

Please click on this link to go to the "Your Councillors" page, where the councillors are listed, and any vacancies are mentioned.
