Help Wanted!
Old Photographs Wanted!Do you have historic photographs of Fen DItton? We're looking for old photos of the village that we can borrow briefly, to scan and copy. The copies will be shown in a new section of this web site, about Fen Ditton's recent history. They may also be displayed in the Recreation Ground pavilion at some later date. All contributions to this site will be attributed to their owners, of course. If you have any photos we could borrow, please contact the Webmaster of this site ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ), and we'll collect and return them as soon as possible. Thank you very much! Last Updated (Sunday, 02 May 2010 16:05) |
Village Emergency Volunteer GroupMany residents have commented on the lack of gritting of roads and paths in the village this Winter, which has caused difficulties for drivers, delivery vans, cyclists and pedestrians. For some residents, venturing out of the house was unsafe, leaving them housebound whilst other villagers slipped and sustained injuries. Three gritting bins are on order from the Council which will be filled with salt (and refilled when necessary) ready for next Winter. We are looking for a group of volunteers to give their contact details who would be prepared to be called upon to spread salt/grit on roads and paths when snow and ice are forecast. There may be other emergencies within the village, for example, those created by power cut or flood, for which having an emergency group of people who would be prepared to be contacted, would also be beneficial in achieving a speedy response. Please contact us (use the link at the top of the page) if you might be able to help.
Update February 2011: The gritting bins have arrived and are already in use. We have been asked to emphasize that the grit is provided for public roads and paths only, and not for use on private property. Voluntary Car Scheme Seeks DriversWe are hoping to set up a voluntary car scheme in the village, similar to or as part of the Beeches scheme that operates in Horningsea and Waterbeach. This is particularly valued, for example, by those needing to get Addenbrooke’s or the Dr’s surgery for an appointment or just to visit a friend, where expensive taxis make it difficult. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer driver, please contact us (use the link at the top of the page), and we'll explain how issues like reimbursement for your petrol and Insurance are arranged.
