The Village Sign

Fen Ditton's beloved village sign, originally made by Richard Melling of Bottisham Village College a quarter of a century ago, is feeling its age.  The iron is corroding, the paint is damaged and rust-stained, and the brick pedestal upon which it stands is not weathering well either.

The Parish Council is looking into having the sign refurbished, and probably remounted onto a new pedestal, which we may relocate to improve its visibility from the junction.

During thus process, from obtaining quotes and the refurbishment itself, the sign will occasionally have to be removed from its post.  Please don't be alarmed - it's all for a good cause.

[Update, Jan 2011] The heavy Winter weather, some severely corroded bolts and the need for specialist lifting equipment due to its weight have slowed our attempts to remove the sign's head for renovation.  Please bear with us - we haven't forgotten it!
