The Bumps - Saturday 18th June

Many people visit Fen Ditton each year to watch the Bumps races. In order to prevent obstructions and to make the day pleasant for everyone, parking restrictions will be in place on Saturday 18th June from High Street through to Green End.

The following roads will be coned off from 7am on Saturday 18th June to restrict parking:

  • High Street
  • Church Street
  • Green End

All vehicles will be directed to the Recreation Ground. Residents will be given Parking Permits the previous weekend; these will allow them free parking on the Recreation Ground on Friday 11th overnight (at owners’ risk) and all day on Saturday. We would be very grateful if you could move your car to the Recreation Ground between 7pm and 9pm on Friday, or at 7am on Saturday. As an added incentive, all residents who park their car in the Recreation Ground and show a Permit will be given a voucher for a free cup of tea and scone!

The gate will be closed at 8pm but you will be able to retrieve your car during the night in an emergency.

The following roads will have vehicular access for residents only:

  • Stanbury Close
  • Wright’s Close

The High Street from the Memorial down to the river will give access only to the University boat crews and pedestrians. The footpath leading to the river south of the Plough will have vehicular access only for residents of the three houses there and access for pedestrians.

Parking on the Recreation ground will be available to non-residents on the evenings of 15th, 16th and 17th for a contribution, and all day Saturday at the charge of £5 per car (including re-entry). The money collected from parking is important to provide and maintain facilities on the Recreation Ground and is administered by the Recreation Ground Trust. All volunteers give their time freely.

Volunteers We are grateful for any help, especially as stewards to collect money and help direct parking. If you are available (even for only an hour) on any of the evenings or on Saturday, please contact the Parish Clerk on This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
