'Clean for the Queen' in Fen Ditton    5 March, 2016

About two dozen volunteers braved the cold dank weather this morning (complete with sleet at one point) to take part in 'Clean for the Queen' in the run-up to the Queen’s 90th birthday on 21st April. We hope Her Majesty would be proud of Fen Ditton's contribution to what was billed to be 'the most monumental of all litter clear-ups’.

The haul from around Fen Ditton included an old sofa, two abandoned dolly buggies, hosing and old piping, as well as over 50 bags full of the usual drinks cans, bottles, crisp and sweet packets, take-away cast-offs and cigarette butts, and the village is looking much tidier as a result.

So, sincere thanks to everyone who contributed in any way, especially to Linda for the use of her carport and kitchen, and to Laurie and Mark whose hot refreshments were even more welcome than usual after such a cold morning’s work. Also to Horningsea Parish Council for the loan of litter-picking equipment, to South Cambridgeshire District Council for providing the bags and taking away the majority of the litter collected, and to all the people under the radar who unobtrusively pick up rubbish on a daily basis as they walk around the village.
